Marin Cilic gave the big surprise of the day by eliminating Andy Murray in the second round of U.S. Open 2009. The Croatian, who signs his best performance at a Grand Slam, is measured in the quarterfinals to Juan Martin del Potro.
The Scot, with his defeat, lost to world No. 2 Rafael Nadal hand, which defeated Gael Monfils smoothly.

The Croatian Marin Cilic (16) beat Andy Murray (2) by an aggregate score of 7-5, 6-2 and 6-2 after two hours and seven minutes in the crash which closed the morning session on center court, the Arthur Ashe. The match was perfect for a Cilic very firm with the service and more aggressive than his rival, adding up to 35 hit winners. Murray, with a few more numbers than discreet, he was always against the tide and gave feelings of fatigue from the beginning of the crash. In the quarterfinals, Marin Cilic will have to face to face with Argentine Juan Martin del Potro, who broke the Spanish Juan Carlos Ferrero for a score of 6-3, 6-3 and 6-3 after two hours and eight minutes of play in a crash on the runway played Louis Armstrong. Del Potro and Cilic only have seen the faces on one occasion in the second round of Australia Open past, a party that ended with victory of Tandil 5-7, 6-4, 6-4, 6-2.
