The Spanish Rafael Nadal made his debut in the Indian Wells tournament with a victory over German Rainer worked Schettler, who won 6-4 6-4 in one hour and 34 minutes.
Nadal, seeded third in the tournament, began his duel with the German player as a real whirlwind that led him to be placed at the first chance with a 4-0 in their favor after breaking his rival's service twice in a row.

But Schuettler awoke at that point in his lethargy and gradually things started to complicate the Spanish player, who under the pressure of his rival gave one of their services, but eventually took the set 6-4.
In the second race Rainer Schuettler continued to work like Nadal, who had to wait until the fifth game to break the German service. He tried to regain ground in the following, but the player was no longer Menorca for the work and ensured the win with another 6-4.
Another Spanish, Guillermo Garcia-Lopez, was the surprise by winning the Croatian Marin Cilic, seeded eight, 7-6 (1), 6-0 in a match where the Hispanic player was intractable. The second set was a recital by player Albacete, forty-ninth in the world rankings, before a completely adrift Cilic.
